Pain & Planning

July 15, 20242 min read

We have all heard it before: the ones that win in business work when no one else wants to. While the majority takes it easy on themselves, you press on the gas double time.

A lot of us know this, yet have you ever stared at the computer with all the intention in the world, and still are not clear on where to start?

There’s a lot that could be said about this, and for this post, I’ll chose these two concepts:

Pain & Planning.

Pain: the most obvious is physical. Not sure if any (sane) person likes this kind. Pain can often manifest itself in the form of stress, anxiousness, perpetual laziness ect. These things no doubt affect our ability to be present and perform at your best. Again, this is obvious to most of us.

So now what?

Well, there's no easy way around it but through it. Since, we have established some self-evident truths about pain, we then could agree that it is part of life and there is no escaping it. Most things in our lives can be handled with the right mindset and well thought out plan.

This leads me to my second and my concluding thought about planning.

This won't be another guide or "how-to"

Most of us know what we should be doing vs how it shows up on our calendar.

This is a much simpler idea: executing something painful for 25 mins.

Otherwise known as The Pomodoro Method, the act of high level execution for 25 min blocks.

Seems simple enough, right? I mean, most of us could do a lot of things for 25 mins.

For example: In real estate or own a small business and are behind on taxes? Wake up early, do something physically challenging, eat a solid breakfast, get in front of your computer, set your timer on your phone for 25 minutes, then send a thorough email to your CPA explaining the situation for his review, call him and set up an appt to meet ASAP, organize all your documents on a drive for future reference. ring ring - timers off. Now move on to your next task.

Imagine doing this for everything that's important and painful in your life everyday. How would that change your situation in 3-6 months?

Trust your gut, wake up early, do something painful, then plan your day and execute with the Pomodoro Method.
